Is it funny how you can hear something for years and it can never really resonate? Then, you hear the same thing at another point in time and you have an Ahaha moment!
My Anusara teacher at One Ocean Yoga in the Hamptons, John Seeley, has been talking about breathing into your kidneys for years. So, not into your chest, but rather focusing on the back of your body and your back ribs. This makes you breathe longer and deeper, and stand taller with less hunched shoulders.
Listening to him this time, I recalled how our kidneys clean our bodies of toxins and giving them some more oxygen and moving them by breathing into them, must be beneficial for reducing toxin in our bodies — and maybe helping Hashimoto’s. Below, John is helping me breath into my kidneys by pushing down on my back ribs. This is actually quite difficult to do, and requires some practice. That said, being mindful of not breathing into the shallow chest is what I try to keep in mind more than anything as I practice yoga back in London.
Maybe a thought for you also. Namaste.
