Fasting Mimicking Diet

There has been lots of talk about fasting and how it can reduce inflammation, put you into a state of autophage, and even regenerate stem cells. Autophage, by the way, is my new favorite word. It is “the body’s way of cleaning out damaged cells, in order to regenerate newer, healthier cells, according to Priya Khorana, PhD, in nutrition education from Columbia University. ‘Auto’ means self and ‘phagy’ means eat. So, the literal meaning of autophagy is ‘self-eating.'” How cool is that?

My most recent bloods showed that my anti-thyroglobulin antibodies are for the first time in a year above the normal range, and I want to kick-start my body into healing itself. I must admit, that I have cheated a lot on my diet recently, and think my gut is creating this havoc.

I have been doing some intermittent 16:8 fasting, but not really in a disciplined way. So, I was looking for something more structured to get me going and came across ProLon®, a 5-day Fasting Mimicking Diet™. Basically, you eat 3 meals a day for 5 days, during which your body does not recognize that it is eating, and therefore remains in a fasting mode. It’s low carbohydrates and proteins, and lots of good fatty acids, vs just water and tea. Plant-based soups, bars, drinks, snacks, teas and supplements are included for maximum fasting effects, while proving essential micronutrients and minimizing hunger feelings.

5 days, 5 packets with all the food you will need.

Off I go on Day 1. I might have a headache or two as a result odetoxing, but I am excited to see how I will feel in 5 days. If you have used Prolon before, would love to hear your thoughts!
